Walti 1922, Gilt Frame

A moody original woodland landscape in oil on canvas, slender birch trees rising from a rocky bank above a dark stream, with dramatic clouds breaking through the canopy, worked in confident painterly brushwork. It is signed and dated "H.V. Walti 1922" at lower left, and the artist labeled the canvas himself on the verso, "Original / H.V. Walti / 1922" — unusually complete documentation for a work of this kind. No biographical or market record has been traced for the artist, so it is offered as a well-documented original by an unrecorded early 20th-century hand; the surname may point to Swiss or German origin. Housed in an ornate acanthus-and-foliate gilt frame, a strong feature in its own right. Oil on canvas, 21 x 24 in. framed.

Canvas sound with age-appropriate toning. Some surface dirt. Frame intact with gilt in good overall condition.

https://valleyhouseantiques.com/products/signed-oil-birch-trees-and-stream-wooded-landscape-h-v-walti-1922-gilt-frame
