Antique British Pastoral Oil, River Watermill at Sunset, Late Victorian, Framed

A small genuine late-Victorian British pastoral in oil on board, figures tending sheep on the left bank and a watermill with a red-tiled roof tucked among trees at right, reeds and lily pads at the river's edge, the calm water catching the pink and peach of a sunset sky. The handling is soft and luminous in the academic pastoral tradition that ran through the second half of the Victorian era. It is unsigned and carried as British School; the trees frame the view and the river opens the middle distance in a formal, confident composition.
