Antique Marble Inkstand, Cut Crystal Inkwell, Brass Fittings, Pen Rest, Victorian
A Victorian-era desk inkstand combining a white marble base with carved pen-rest grooves and four brass ball feet, fitted with a single cut crystal inkwell with hinged faceted lid and brass collar. The marble base is solid and substantial — squared with beveled edges and integrated pen rests on each side — a form that was standard equipment on the well-appointed Victorian writing desk. The crystal inkwell sits centered on the base, its multi-faceted body and hinged octagonal lid consistent with English or Continental production, late 19th century. Brass collar and hinge show honest age and patina. No maker's mark. Measures 5¼ in H × 5¼ in W × 4¾ in D overall.
Marble base sound; minor surface staining consistent with age; no chips or cracks. Cut crystal inkwell intact; facets clear. Brass collar and hinge functional; verdigris patina present throughout metalwork — honest age, not damage. Hinge opens and closes correctly.
