Antique Oil on Canvas, Mountain Road Autumn Landscape, Signed L. Roy, c.1900
An atmospheric turn-of-the-century landscape of a pale road winding down through autumn woodland toward hazy blue-grey mountains, the foliage rendered in loose, rust-red and yellow-green strokes under a soft sky. The handling is characteristic of amateur-to-modest-professional landscape painting from this period. Signed lower right "L. Roy," with what may be a date reading "04" beneath, suggesting 1904; the signature reading is provisional, and the artist could not be identified against documented painters. Oil on linen canvas, on its original keyed wooden stretcher, with a separate worn period wooden frame. Canvas measures 11.75 × 9.5 in.
Fair. The canvas shows significant edge damage with frayed and partially torn tacking margins along the upper and right edges, the canvas pulling away from the stretcher in places, and visible bulging through the sky area indicating slack or compromised tension. Paint surface itself appears stable with age-appropriate craquelure and surface grime, the period wooden frame is heavily worn with finish losses throughout, and the work requires conservation attention to the canvas mounting before it can be safely hung or reframed.
