Charles Bradley (American, 1925-2001) Ink and Watercolor, Opulent Interior
Ink and watercolor architectural interior illustration by Charles Nelson Bradley (American, 1925-2001), most likely depicting a room at Ca' d'Zan, the Ringling winter residence in Sarasota. Bradley served in World War II, attended Ringling College of Art on the GI Bill, joined the faculty in 1956, and led the Interior Design Department from 1965 until his retirement in 1976. The composition renders an opulent paneled room in striking turquoise and gilt — coffered ceiling, carved overmantel, deep niches displaying ceramics, Chippendale chairs on an aubusson carpet, and a chinoiserie screen at right. Unsigned. Sight 8⅝ × 14⅜ in; framed under glass to 15¾ × 20¾ in with gilt cove molding and double mat. Verso bears Jessica's of Sarasota framing label. Attribution per Sarasota Estate Auction April 19, 2026 written description.
image appears clean and bright under glass with strong color retention in the blues and gilt; mat is clean, no visible foxing, no toning visible to camera. Frame intact with light gilt wear consistent with age; verso paper backing intact, original hanging wire.
