Charles Hunt after W.J. Shayer, Age Brighton Coach, Hand-Colored Engraving, 1867
Hand-colored engraving after the painting by William Joseph Shayer (1811–1892), engraved by Charles Hunt (1803–1877), with the publication line "London Published 1867 by R. Dobson, Strand." Four grey horses gallop a blue-and-red coach along an open road, passengers atop and a dog alongside — the celebrated pre-railway London-to-Brighton run. The hand-coloring sits on the surface in the period manner. Giltwood frame, 20 × 26 in. framed.
Good overall consistent with age. Some toning and foxing to paper consistent with period. Hand coloring bright and intact. Frame — silver and gilt with inner gilt edge — shows appropriate wear.
