Pair French Gilt Metal Sconces, Rock Crystal and Amethyst, Bagues Style, 20th C.
A pair of French single-light wall sconces in the Maison Baguès taste: a scrolling gilt-metal backplate and arm hung with molded glass flower rosettes, rock-crystal and glass drops, and raw amethyst points wired at the center. The form is a 20th-century interpretation of 18th-century Louis XV–XVI lighting, prized for the play of natural stone and crystal against gilt metal. These are unsigned, so they are recorded as Baguès-style rather than attributed to the maison. The raw amethyst and rock-crystal elements are natural stone; the flowers are molded glass. Gilt metal with crystal, rock crystal, and amethyst, 11 x 4 x 6 in. each.
Gilt-metal frames sound with bright gilding; crystal and stone elements appear complete and intact, though all drops should be confirmed present before sale. The pair has been rewired and is ready to install.
