Sir Alfred Munnings, After the Race, Pencil Signed Frost & Reed Chromolithograph
Colour photolithograph of "After the Race" after the original by Sir Alfred Munnings, P.P.R.A. (English, 1878-1959), the preeminent British equestrian painter of the 20th century. Published by Frost & Reed of London under permission of the Southampton Corporation, owners of the original canvas. The composition depicts the post-race paddock: a steaming racehorse with jockey up attended by trainer and grooms in dappled light. Pencil signed "A.J. Munnings" in the lower right margin in graphite, with embossed Fine Art Trade Guild blind stamp lower left, the documented Guild authentication for editions of this category. Framed under UV-protective glass in gilt cove molding with linen mat. 29.5 x 34 in.
Honest condition consistent with mid-20th c. age. Image shows strong color retention with characteristic Munnings tonality intact — no significant fading visible. Pencil signature on lower margin is clear and well-preserved. Linen mat appears clean and untoned. Gilt cove frame intact with light wear consistent with age. UV-protective glass in place. Verso paper backing intact from "The Great Frame Up" (Wayne, PA) reframing with Trueguard UV glass certificate. In-person inspection should verify whether any light foxing or toning exists at sheet edges hidden under the mat, and check the pencil signature with a loupe to confirm graphite character.
